Former resident company member Rebecca Davis returns in the 2018-19 season to perform the role of Konstanze in the company premiere of Mozart’s The Abduction from the Seraglio. Recent performances for Ms. Davis included 2017-18 role debuts as Louise in Henze’s Der Junge Lord, The First Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Agathe in Weber’s Der Freischütz, and Marie in Smetana’s The Bartered Bride, all with Staatsoper Hannover.
During the 2016-17 season, Ms. Davis performed the roles of Mimì (Puccini’s La bohème), Micaëla (Bizet’s Carmen), Rosalinda (Strauss’s Die Fledermaus), and the Countess (Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro), all with Germany’s Staatsoper Hannover. In the previous season, Ms. Davis appeared as Donna Anna (Mozart’s Don Giovanni), Mimì, and her title role debut in Dvorak’s Rusalka, also with Staatsoper Hannover.
Ms. Davis returned to OSJ during the 2014-15 season as a featured artist in the Irene Dalis Memorial Concert on May 16. For Staatsoper Hanover, she appeared as Phebe (Castor et Pollux), Micaëla (Carmen), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), the Countess (The Marriage of Figaro), Margherita and Elena (Mefistofele) and Rosalinda (Die Fledermaus). In 2013-14, she performed the roles of Mimì (La bohème), Micaëla (Carmen), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte) and Helena (Midsummer Night’s Dream), also for Staatsoper Hanover.
During the 2011-12 season, Ms. Davis was named First Place winner in the 2012 Irene Dalis Vocal Competition. During the summer of 2012, she was a featured soloist with the Midsummer Mozart Festival, performing the aria “Vorrei spiegarvi, oh Dio” and as a soloist in the Great Mass in C minor. Other recent performances for Ms. Davis include the role of Mimì (La bohéme) for Opera Santa Barbara in November 2011. In September, Ms. Davis returned to OSJ to perform the role of Ilia in the company premiere of Mozart’s Idomeneo and Violetta in La traviata. Other 2011 performances included Violetta (La traviata) for Festival Opera and Opera Santa Barbara.
During 2010-11, Ms. Davis performed a series of concerts for the Merola program in San Francisco during the summer, and then returned to OSJ to perform the title role in Tosca. In the company’s 2009-10 season, she performed the roles of the Countess (The Marriage of Figaro) and Magda (La rondine).
Ms. Davis joined OSJ’s resident company during the 2008 – 2009 season, performing the roles of Tatyana (Eugene Onegin), Adina (The Elixir of Love), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), and Micaela (Carmen). Ms. Davis recently made her Carnegie Hall debut as soprano soloist Schubert’s Mass in G, Mozart’s Laudate Dominum and Raminsh’s Missa Brevis. Roles performed recently include Mimì (La bohème), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte) with American Opera Group and the title role of Tosca with DuPage Opera Theater.
Ms. Davis has also appeared with such companies as Chicago Opera Theater, the Sarasota Opera, Kentucky Opera, Opera North, Intimate Opera and Opera Theatre North in such roles as Musetta (La bohème), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni) and Violetta (La traviata). She has been a member of Chicago Opera Theater’s Young Artist Program, Sarasota Opera’s Apprentice Artist Program, Kentucky Opera’s Rudd Young Artist Program, and served as an Apprentice Artist for Opera North.
Ms. Davis has received numerous awards, including the Grand Prize of the Chicago Bel Canto competition and finalist of the Tri-State Region in the Metropolitan Opera National Council’s competition. Most recently, she was named a finalist in the 2009 Renato Tebaldi International Voice Competition, held in San Marino, Italy.
