Movement and Choreography Instructor
Marjorie Nakaji (Hanayagi Jumasuga) returns to OSJ in the 2018-19 season, serving as movement and choreography instructor. She began dancing at the age of 4 while her family was interned at the Tule Lake Relocation Camp during World War II. Later in her life, she made two trips to Tokyo to study under Hanayagi Headmasters II and III. There, she obtained the coveted teaching credential, becoming the first “sansei” Japanese-American. This is her fourth year working with Opera San José and the third year working with Brad Dalton. She wants to thank Opera San José and the late Irene Dalis for allowing her to work with Brad and the various casts of Madama Butterfly.
