Elizabeth Poindexter serves as costume designer for the 2017-18 productions of Mozart’s Così fan tutte, Puccini’s La rondine, and Verdi’s La traviata. Previous OSJ design credits include Puccini’s Tosca, the world premiere of Weiser’s Where Angels Fear to Tread, Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, as well as the recent productions of Verdi’s Il trovatore, Bizet’s The Pearl Fishers, and Puccini’s Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi. Other OSJ productions in which her work has been featured include Carlson’s Anna Karenina, Puccini’s Tosca, Rossini’s La Cenerentola, Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Bizet’s Carmen, Ward’s The Crucible, Verdi’s Falstaff, Gounod’s Faust, Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore, Mechem’s Tartuffe, Barber’s Vanessa, Mollicone’s Hotel Eden, and Henderson’s West of Washington Square.
Costume design credits for other companies include work for American Musical Theatre of San Jose, California Shakespeare Festival, San Jose Repertory Theatre, Western Stage Company (Salinas, CA), The Alley Theatre (Houston, TX) and The José Limon Dance Company (New York, NY).
Ms. Poindexter was a member of the design faculty of the Televison, Radio , Film and Theatre Department of San José State University for thirty years. Her university design credits number over 150 productions including dance (modern and jazz), video and film, musical theatre, opera, as well as classic theatre repertory. She is an active member of the Costume Commission of the United States Institute for Theatre Technology and a founding member of the Bay Area Costumers’ Alliance.
