The Marriage of Figaro

The Marriage of Figaro, a work closely tied with the history of Opera San Jose, returns in an arresting new production designed to highlight the universality of Mozart’s themes and relationships. Transported to India during the British Raj, Beaumarchais’ timeless comedy arrives in a new land where the familiar and the faraway distill new insight into this immortal opera. Sexual politics and class resentments play out through the prism of colonialism, all fighting against the colorblind humanity of Mozart’s vision. Brad Dalton puts his stamp on this production and OSJ welcomes the company premiere of internationally acclaimed conductor Viswa Subbaraman.
