Born in Southern California, Maria has deep Italian and Operatic roots. Brought up in a very large Sicilian family, she spent many of her early years in Southern Italy. Maria caught the opera bug at a young age, sharing her grandfather’s intense love for opera as well as listening to his records of every Verdi and Puccini operas ever written. From singing the lead role in her Elementary School musical, Maria pursued vocal performance at San Francisco Conservatory before spending a year in professional studies at Manhattan School of Music. Fresh out of college, Maria launched her professional career making her mainstage debut singing Liù in Puccini’s Turandot and since then, has continued to wow audiences of Opera Maine as Violetta in La traviata and Tulsa Opera as Cio-cio-san in Madama Butterfly for her debut with the company.
Maria combines her passion for opera with her love for traditional Italian cooking and hosting large gatherings. She also shares her husband’s love of flying, hopping into a propeller plane for weekend getaways.
