Heather Cooper is a 2011 Isadora Duncan Award nominee for Outstanding Performance, for her work in Mark Foehringer’s Another Time. In 2015, along with Raphaël Boumaïla, Ms. Cooper founded REACH BC Dance Company. REACH recently performed at the Graham Dance Center in NYC, and at Dance Mission, San Francisco.
For twelve years, Ms. Cooper was a founding member and contributing choreographer for sjDANCEco, the San Jose contemporary dance company directed by Gary Masters and Maria Basile. In August 2015, she performed with sjDANCEco for the Taipei Arts Festival. With the company, Ms. Cooper has performed several masterworks of Jose Limon, including The Moor’s Pavane, Missa Brevis, The Winged, Waldstein Sontata, and There is a Time. She has also created original works including Echo of My Fall, Beneath the Visiting Moon, Close, among many others.
Ms. Cooper has performed with Mark Foehringer Dance Project, participating in a US Embassy tour in Peru last June. She is Associate Director of the School of Music and Dance and Coordinator of the Dance Program at San José State University. There, she teaches contemporary technique and choreographs for the University Dance Theater. Ms. Cooper is also on faculty for the Conservatory for Contemporary Dance Arts, under the direction of Mark Foehringer.
Ms. Cooper has a BA in Dance from University of California at Santa Barbara and MA in Dance from Cal State Long Beach.
