An evening with opera star Michael Fabiano, General Director Shawna Lucey, and the Resident Artists of Opera San José

Opera San José and ArtSmart are proud to announce a new partnership to support free voice lessons, musical opportunities and mentorship for under-resourced students in San José. With arts education being cut from schools, it is up to organizations like ours to step in and work to eliminate economic barriers to arts access. By working together, we can greatly expand the impact on our communities. Everyone deserves the chance to express themselves through the magic of music.

In celebration of this new collaboration, we invite you to join us for an evening you won’t want to miss. World famous operatic tenor and ArtSmart co-founder Michael Fabiano will perform alongside the Opera San José Resident Artists before being joined by OSJ General Director Shawna Lucey for a mini-masterclass. Don’t miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness how opera comes to life!

About the Artists

As one of the most renowned tenors of his generation, Michael Fabiano has won critical acclaim and a devoted following for his powerful voice, electrifying stage presence, and emotional depth. His performances have been hailed as "unforgettable" and "transcendent" by audiences and critics alike, and he has sung leading roles in some of the most beloved operas of all time, including La Bohème, Carmen, and Rigoletto at the world’s most popular opera houses. He will headline the San Francisco Opera’s upcoming production of Madama Butterfly this June.

In addition to her work as General Director and CEO of Opera San José, Shawna Lucey is an internationally acclaimed operatic stage director. She trained at the University of Texas at Austin, Barnard and Columbia’s Theater Department, the world famous Bread and Puppet Theater, and the Boris Schukin Theatre Institute in Moscow. Following five years studying, performing and touring in Russia, she returned to the US to work with illustrious opera companies such as the Metropolitan Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Santa Fe Opera, and, recently, with the San Francisco Opera on her hit production of La Traviata.
