Upcoming performances for MICHELE DETWILER include the role of Suzuki in Puccini’s Madame Butterfly with MidAtlantic Opera of New Jersey in December 2017. Last season’s engagements included soloist in Berlioz’s Romeo and Juliette with the Boise Philharmonic, Mahler’s Das Knaben Wunderhorn with the Boise Wind Quintet, and a return to Livermore Valley Opera to reprise her role as Suzuki. She also was a featured soloist in Mahler’s Second Symphony and Picnic at the Pops: Music of Gershwin, performed with Boise Baroque and Boise Philharmonic in Bach’s Magnificat and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. In Spring 2017, she returned to Stockton Opera in the role of Cherubino in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, and appeared with Idaho State Civic Symphony as a featured soloist in their performance of Mendelssohn’s Elijah.
Other recent engagements for Ms. Detwiler include the roles of The Third Lady in Mozart’s The Magic Flute and Maddelena (Verdi’s Rigoletto) with Opera Idaho, and Suzuki (Puccini’s Madama Butterfly) with Livermore Valley Opera.
During the 2014-15 season, she appeared as Dinah (Trouble in Tahiti) and Anna (The King & I), both with Opera Idaho. Other recent performances for Ms. Detwiler included the role of La Ciesca (Gianni Schicchi) for Stockton Opera, and Augusta (The Ballad of Baby Doe) with Opera Idaho in spring of 2012. During the 2010 – 2011 season, Ms. Detwiler’s engagements included the roles of Preziosilla (La Forza del Destino) for West Bay Opera and Suzuki (Madama Butterfly) with Opera Idaho. On the concert stage, Ms. Detwiler was a featured soloist with the Boise Philharmonic in their performance of the Messiah.
Other recent concert appearances in which Ms. Detwiler was a featured soloist include Herzogenberg’s Die geburt Christi, Mozart’s Requiem, and Vivaldi’s Gloria. For Opera Idaho, she appeared as Bloody Mary in a concert version of South Pacific.
During the 2009 – 2010 season, Ms. Detwiler performed the roles of Siebel (Faust), and Tisbe (La Cenerentola) for Opera Idaho. On the concert stage, she appeared as a soloist in Boise Philharmonic’s performances of Einhorn’s Voices of Light and Candide Suite. Ms. Detwiler was also named a finalist in the Fourth Annual Irene Dalis Vocal Competition in May, 2010.
Roles performed recently for OSJ included Stephano (Roméo et Juliette), Rosina (The Barber of Seville), Elizabeth Proctor (The Crucible), Ulrica Arvidsson (A Masked Ball) and Zerlina (Don Giovanni). Other OSJ roles performed include Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro), the title role in Carmen, Mary (Der fliegende Holländer), Santuzza (Cavalleria rusticana), Prince Orlovsky (Die Fledermaus), Angelina (La Cenerentola), Siebel (Faust), Azucena (Il trovatore), Third Lady (Die Zauberflöte), Dorabella (Così fan tutte) and Suzuki (Madama Butterfly).
For the Apollo and Sacramento Opera companies, Ms. Detwiler was seen as the Third Lady (Die Zauberflöte) and Kate Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly). She has also appeared with San Francisco Lyric Opera in the roles of Echo (Ariadne auf Naxos) and Fricka (Das Rheingold ) and for West Bay Opera as the Voice of Mother (Les Contes d’Hoffmann).
Concert appearances have featured Ms. Detwiler in the Saint-Saens Christmas Oratorio, Handel’s Messiah, and Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen. During the summer of 2005, Ms. Detwiler was a featured soloist with Monterey Opera. In 2000, Ms. Detwiler was a Regional Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera Competition.
