2008 – 2013
During the 2016-17 season, ALEXANDER BOYER appeared as Eunuch/Stone in San Francisco Opera’s world premiere of Bright Sheng’s Dream of the Red Chamber. Mr. Boyer made his debut with SFO in 2015-16, appearing as El Remendado in Bizet’s Carmen. For Festival Opera in Walnut Creek, he appeared in the title role of Pagliacci in Summer 2017. On the concert stage, he was a featured artist with the San Jose Chamber Orchestra in May 2017 as part of their collaboration with the Merola Opera Program of San Francisco.
Other recent engagements for Mr. Boyer include the roles of Rodolfo in Puccini’s La bohème and the Duke of Mantua in Verdi’s Rigoletto with Island City Opera, Marcello in Leoncavallo’s La bohème and Alwa in Berg’s Lulu with West Edge Opera, Lt. B.F. Pinkerton in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly with Livermore Valley Opera, Lensky in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin with Opera Idaho, and Edgardo in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor and Manrico in Il trovatore with Island City Opera.
During his residency at Opera San José, Mr. Boyer performed the roles of Nadir (The Pearl Fishers), Eisenstein (Die Fledermaus), Manrico (Il trovatore), Rinuccio (Gianni Schicchi), the title role in the company premiere of Mozart’s Idomeneo, Canio (Pagliacci), Alfredo (La traviata) and the title role in Faust. Other roles performed for the company included Konstantin Levin (Anna Karenina), Mario Cavaradossi (Tosca) and Rodolfo (La bohème.) Previous seasons have featured Mr. Boyer as Des Grieux (Manon), Ruggero (La rondine), Nemorino (The Elixir of Love), Ferrando (Così fan tutte), and Don José (Carmen).
A New York native, Mr. Boyer holds degrees from Boston University and Manhattan School of Music. He has sung the roles Arkady in Lee Hoiby’s A Month in the Country, the Chevalier de la Force (Dialogues des Carmelites), Alfredo (La traviata), and Luigi (Il tabarro). He has participated in the Merola and Santa Fe Opera programs, and is a winner of the Mario Lanza scholarship award.
