Assistant Conductor, Chorus Master
Andrew Whitfield returns during the 2012-13 season as Assistant Conductor for The Pearl Fishers and Il trovatore, and Chorus Master for The Pearl Fishers, Die Fledermaus, Il trovatore and the Puccini double-bill, Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi.
Mr. Whitfield moved to the Bay Area three years ago from New York City where he served as music director for the famed Amato Opera, conducting nearly two hundred performances of some two dozen operas. In January of 2011, Whitfield joined the music staff of Opera San José as chorus master winning critical praise for their high profile production of Idomeneo. He made his conducting debut at Opera San José in a double bill of La Voix humaine and Pagliacci later that year.
Last winter, Mr. Whitfield returned to his native New York City where he conducted performances of Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Amore Opera. In addition, he recently conducted a concert of opera arias and scenes for Monterey Opera, as well as Lucia di Lammermoor at Festival Opera, La bohème and La traviata at the Virago Theater. This fall Mr. Whitfield joined the music staff of the San Francisco Opera for their recent production of Lohengrin.
