Sara Gartland debuts with the company during the 2013-14 season, appearing as Gretel in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel. Roles performed recently by Ms. Gartland include Juliette (Roméo et Juliette) for Des Moines Metro Opera, Echo (All Wounds Bleed) at Opera America Center in New York, and Curley’s Wife (Of Mice and Men) for Utah Opera. For San Francisco Opera, she recently covered the role of Pat Nixon in their productions of Nixon in China and Susan Rescorla (The Heart of a Soldier) . In 2010, she appeared as Kate Pinkerton and Barbarina in SFO’s productions of Madama Butterfly and The Marriage of Figaro.
On the concert stage, she has appeared in recital in San Francisco and Stanford University, and was a featured soloist in Four Thomas Hardy Songs at UC Davis, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with Elmhurst Symphony, and Carmina Burana for Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra. As an Adler Fellow, she was a featured soloist in the Adler Fellows Gala Concert in 2010 and 2011.
Ms. Gartland was a finalist in the Sun Valley Opera Competition (2009), was a Regional Finalist in the Eastern Region Metropolitan National Council Auditions (2008), and a District Finalist in the Rocky Mountain Region Metropolitan National Council Auditions (2006).
She received her BM in Vocal Performance from University of Wisconsin-Madison, and her MM and an Opera Solo Performance Certificate from the University of Colorado-Boulder.
