Steven C. Kemp
Set Designer
Steven C. Kemp returns during the 2013-14 season as set designer for Falstaff. Other OSJ productions in which his set designs have been featured include last season’s Il trovatore, as well as Idomeneo, Faust, and Anna Karenina. Associate design credits at The Metropolitan Opera include Falstaff and Faust. His work in New York includes productions Off-Broadway for The Mint Theatre, Second Stage, The Playwrights Realm, Cherry Lane Theatre, and Red Dog Squadron. Other New York credits include work for 59E59, The New School for Drama, Hudson Stage Company, Poliglot Theater, Fringe Festival and New York Musical Theatre Festival. In Europe his designs include the current tour of Ain’t Misbehabin’ and productions at The Hungarian Theatre in Cluj.
Regional highlights include productions at La Jolla Playhouse, Royal George Theatre, Stages Repertory Theatre (Houston, TX) and UC San Diego. As the associate designer his credits on Broadway include Jesus Christ Superstar, High, Long Story Short, Reasons to be Pretty and the 2010 Tony Award-winning Best Musical, Memphis. His other associate and assistant credits include work for Disney Theatricals, Dreamworks, Norwegian Cruise Lines, English National Opera, San Diego Opera, Stratford Shakespeare Festival, The Old Globe Theatre, The 5th Avenue Theatre, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, South Coast Rep, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, and Williamstown Theatre Festival. His work was selected for exhibition in the USA student exhibit in the 2007 Prague Quadrennial and was the 2008 USITT Rose Brand Scenic Design award winner.
Mr. Kemp received his MFA from UC San Diego.
