Patrice Houston


Patrice HoustonPatrice Houston returns as a guest artist during the 2013-14 season, performing the role of Dame Quickly in Verdi’s Falstaff. Last season, Ms. Houston performed the roles of La Principessa in Suor Angelica and Zita in Gianni Schicchi. Other recent engagements for Ms. Houston include Ulrica (A Masked Ball) for Opera Company Brooklyn, and Azucena (Il trovatore) with the Summer Opera Theatre Company of Washington, DC, for which she was honored with the Summer Opera Guild Award . Additional operatic roles include Amneris (Aida), Frugola (Il tabarro), and La Principessa (Suor Angelica). Most recently, Ms. Houston sang the role of Alisa in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor. Internationally, the dramatic mezzo has performed in Holland, Italy, and Germany.

On the concert platform Ms. Houston has been seen as a soloist in the Requiem of both Verdi and Mozart, and is now expanding her repertoire with Wagner and Mahler. Ms. Houston was once a Regional Semi-Finalist in both the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions for the Northwest region and the Loren L. Zachary Competition in Los Angeles, California.

Ms. Houston earned a Bachelor of Music degree from San Jose State University under the tutelage of the late Jeanne Garson and Joseph Frank.
