Ming Luke

Assistant Conductor

lukeMing Luke shares conducting duties in the 2013-14 production of Falstaff.  Previously, Mr. Luke served as assistant conductor for the recent OSJ productions of La voix humaine and Pagliacci, The Barber of Seville and Eugene Onegin, and served as chorus master for Così fan tutte.

Mr. Luke currently serves as Music Director of Symphony Napa Valley, Music and Education Director of the Lincoln Theater, and Music Director of the Berkeley Community Chorus and Orchestra. He has worked with ensembles across the US, UK, Russia, Czech Republic, Hungary, and Austria, conducting orchestras such as Kennedy Center Opera Orchestra, Birmingham Royal, Bolshoi Orchestra, San Francisco Ballet, Gödöllő Symphony Orchestra (Hungary),  Sacramento Opera, Napa Regional Dance Company, Sacramento Philharmonic, Komorni Orchestr Akademie of Prague, the Napa Valley Symphony, and others.

Equally talented as a ballet conductor, Luke has been the primary guest conductor with the San Francisco Ballet for the past two season and conducted the company over thirty times at the San Francisco War Memorial. Embarking on four separate tours with the company, he conducted Romeo and Juliet at the Kennedy Center and made his English debut at Sadler’s Wells. Luke was invited to prepare the Bolshoi Orchestra in Russia for a special festival featuring some of the top ballet companies around the world.

Recognized nationally for his innovative education programs, Luke has written, arranged, and performed over 120 education concerts with the Berkeley Symphony, for whom he is the Associate Conductor. He has served on grant panels for the National Endowment of the Arts and the Grants and Cultural Committee of the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission.

Mr. Luke holds a Master of Fine Arts in Conducting from Carnegie Mellon University and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and Piano Pedagogy from Westminster Choir College of Rider University.
