Kent Dorsey returns to Opera San José as the lighting designer for the Puccini double-bill, Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi. Most recently, Mr. Dorsey’s work was featured in all four productions of the company’s 2010-11 season: Anna Karenina, Tosca, The Barber of Seville and La bohéme. Other OSJ productions in which his lighting designs appeared include La Cenerentola, La rondine, Carmen, Werther, Madama Butterfly, The Crucible and Die Lustige Witwe.
His opera work includes Scenery, Projection and Lighting Design for the World Premier of The Conquistador (San Diego Opera). Sir Peter Maxwell Davies’ The Lighthouse directed by Jack O’Brien (San Diego Opera & Chicago Opera Theatre). La Boheme and Samson et Dalila (Palm Beach Opera) The Flying Dutchman directed by Lillian Garret-Groag (Virginia Opera). Lucia di Lammermoor directed by Colin Graham (Greensboro Opera).`
Mr. Dorsey’s New York theater productions include Alligator Tales, About Time, The Cocktail Hour, Yankee Dawg You Die, Suds, Another Antigone and Silence. He has designed scenery /or lighting on over 95 productions for San Diego’s Old Globe Theatre.
Mr. Dorsey also has designed for most of the major resident theater companies including the Kennedy Center, The Ahmanson, Playwrights Horizons, Manhattan Theatre Club, American Conservatory Theater, La Jolla Playhouse, the Geffen Playhouse, Seattle Repertory Theater, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Shakespeare Theatre at the Folger, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, Missouri Repertory Theater, Cleveland Play House, Philadelphia Drama Guild, Alliance Theatre Company, Denver Center Theatre Company and the Los Angeles Theatre Center.
