Set Designer

Charlie Smith’s set designs appear in OSJ’s 2012-13 productions of The Pearl Fishers, Die Fledermaus and the Puccini double-bill of Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi. Previously, Mr. Smith’s designs were seen in OSJ’s 2008 – 2009 production of The Elixir of Love.

Mr. Smith has worked on theatrical and entertainment projects in New York, in regional theatres across the country, tours in the U.S. and Europe and in London’s West End. Prior to establishing Charlie Smith Design Associates, he was a longtime Associate Designer with David Gallo & Associates, a Tony Award-winning New York-based entertainment design studio.

Recent Broadway credits include the Tony-nominated sets for August Wilson’s Radio Golf and Gem of the Ocean and the Tony-winning musical The Drowsy Chaperone. Off-Broadway, regional, touring, and international credits include Showstoppers at Lincoln Center, The It Girl and The Drowsy Chaperone (London and National Tour), Beauty and the Beast (European Tour, Germany and Spain), and The Wiz (Netherlands). Upcoming projects include new productions of Radio Golf, Frankie & Johnny, and Billy Budd as well as illustrating a new series of children’s books.

Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Mr. Smith received his training in Theatrical Design from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and in Architecture from the University of Turin in Italy.
