Clifton Romig returns to OSJ to
perform the role of The Speaker in Mozart's The Magic Flute. Mr.
Romig recently appeared as the
Father in Opera San José’s world premiere of Craig Bohmler’s The Tale of
the Nutcracker in 1999. While a resident artist with OSJ from
1993 - 1997, Mr. Romig performed the roles of Nourabad (Les Pêcheurs
de perles), Zuniga (Carmen), Don Alfonso (Così
fan tutte), Grenvil (La
traviata), Gremin (Eugene Onegin), Frank (Die Fledermaus),
Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro), the Bonze (Madama Butterfly),
Ariodate (Xerxes), Mephistopheles (Faust), and Colline
(La bohème).
Other recent engagements for Mr.
Romig include performances in the premiere of Lisa Scola Prosek's
Belfagor, Gordon
Getty’s Plump Jack, and the roles of Henry IV as well as Davy and
Fang. He performs regularly with Savoy Express, a Bay Area Gilbert
and Sullivan revue, and recently joined the cast of Oh, Mr. Sousa!,
a tribute to the life and music of "The March King", John Phillip
Sousa. Mr. Romig has also appeared as Mustafa in L’italiana in Algeri for West Bay Opera, Buonafede in Haydn’s Il mondo nella luna for Marin Music
Festival, Méphistophélès with Opera
Colarado, the role of Leporello in Mozart’s Don Giovanni with
South Valley Opera, and the
King of Mars in Berkeley Opera's production of Riot Grrrl. Upcomjing
engagements includes Lisa Scola Prosek's new opera Trap Door in
which he perform a leading role. |
