Robert McPherson,

(1997 - 1999)

Highlights during  the 2004 - 2005 season included the role of Eric in the world premiere of Nosferatu with the Rimrock Opera Company, Roméo (Roméo et Juliette) with the Sacramento Opera and a debut performance with the Washington National Opera as Prince Ramiro in their production of La Cenerentola.  Additionally, he appeared with San Antonio Opera for performances of Don Ramiro in Rossini’s La Cenerentola, a role with which he has a close association and has performed with several companies. European performances included his debut in Madrid at the Teatro Real's production of Elena e Constantino by Charnicer and concert performances of Rodrigo in Il Viaggio a Reims at the Fundacao de São Carlos in Lisbon. Most recently, Mr. McPherson cut his first commercial classical recording under the Albany Records label entitled Nosferatu.

In March of 2003, he performed the role of Rodrigo in La Donna del Lago in Avignon, which also marked the occasion of his European debut. Other recent notable engagements include performances of Count Libenskopf in Il Viaggio a Reims in Genoa, Messiah with Seattle Symphony and Rodrigo in La Donna del Lago in Genoa. Additionally, he made his debut with the Dallas Opera in 2001 as Arturo Bucklaw  (Lucia di Lammermoor), debuted as Ernesto (Don Pasquale) with the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, sang Tonio  (La Fille du Régiment) with the Spokane Opera, and performed Almaviva (Il barbiere di Siviglia) with Opera Illinois. In the summer of 2001, he debuted with the Mostly Mozart Festival in performances of Schumann’s Das Paradies und die Peri under Gerard Schwartz. In the spring of 2001, he had the honor of inaugurating a new opera company, New York’s Henry Street Opera Company, singing the role of Scipione in Mozart’s rarely performed Il Sogno di Scipione.

Other roles performed include Don Ramiro (La Cenerentola), Lindoro (L'Italiana in Algeri),  Don Narciso (Il Turco in Italia), Ferrando (Così fan tutte), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Tom Rakewell (The Rake's Progress), Sam (Susannah), Curley  (Of Mice and Men), Roméo (Roméo et Juliette), Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor), and Il Duca (Rigoletto). 

Equally adept in concert repertoire, Mr. McPherson made his professional debut with the Seattle Symphony at the age of twenty-three, and has since performed the Messiah, Bach's Magnificat, Britten's Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings, and the Shepherd in Stravinsky's Oedipus Rex. He has performed with the Mexico City Philharmonic, Santa Fe Symphony, American Sinfonietta, Masterworks Chorale of San Mateo, New West Symphony, Northwest Chamber Orchestra, and the Carmel Bach Music Festival in such works as Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, Mozart's Requiem and Coronation Mass, and Haydn’s Creation.

A world finalist in the 5th Luciano Pavarotti International Vocal Competition, he was also a winner in the 1998 Ellen Faull Gordon Vocal Competition and the 1997 Metropolitan Opera National Council's Northwest Regional Auditions. Mr. McPherson is a native of Seattle, Washington, where he continues his vocal studies with Mr. William Eddy.
