Kenneth Mattice performs the roles of Enrico (Lucia di Lammermoor),
Albert (Werther), Marullo (Rigoletto), and Papageno
(The Magic Flute) during the 2007 - 2008 season. Mr. Mattice made
his debut as a principal member of OSJ's resident company last season,
appearing as Mercutio (Roméo et Juliette), Figaro
(The Barber of Seville), Germont (La traviata) and
Sharpless (Madama Butterfly).
Before joining Opera San José,
Mr. Mattice peformed Malatesta (Don Pasquale) with the Newton
Symphony (Boston) and Schaunard (La bohème) with Baltimore
Opera. In 2005, as a Studio Artist for Baltimore Opera, he sang
Belcore (L'elsir d'amore), Silvio (I Pagliacci), Antonio
(Le nozze di Figaro), and Hermann (Les Contes
d'Hoffman). Other recent appearances include Escamillo (Carmen)
at the Ravinia Festival, and the title roles in Don Giovanni
and Gianni Schicchi for the Opera Institute at Boston
University. He has also performed with Chicago Opera Theater,
Chautauqua Opera, the Pine Mountain Music Festival, Opera Theatre
North and Opera Quad Cities.
Mr. Mattice was recently named a winner in the
Palm
Beach Opera Competition, the
Bel Canto Italian Opera Competition, and the Opera
Quad Cities Competition. He was also a Finalist in the Liederkranz
Competition, the Friends of Austria Competition and the
Classical Singer Convention
Competition, and a
Semi-Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National
Council Auditions, New England Region.
