David Kurtenbach,
Chorus Master

David Kurtenbach serves as Chorus Master for OSJ's 2009 - 2010 season. He has worked as a soloist and conductor with many Bay Area ensembles including the Oakland Symphony Chorus, Pacific Mozart Ensemble, Festival Opera, Schola Cantorum, and San Francisco Choral Artists – including an acclaimed performance as part of the Street Chorus for Bernstein's Mass with the Oakland East Bay Symphony. For four seasons he was the Chorus Master of Festival Opera, also debuting as Assistant Conductor for their production of Carlisle Floyd's Susannah. Most recently, he performed world premieres of works by Meredith Monk, David Lang, and Dave Brubeck.

Mr. Kurtenbach is an active member of Volti – a professional choir based in San Francisco committed to performing and supporting young, upcoming composers, and premiering new music from the 21st Century. He currently sings as a Choral Scholar in the Quartet in Residence at the French National Church in San Francisco, Notre Dame des Victoires, performing Gregorian chant and 15th to 18th Century polyphony.

After obtaining vocal performance and conducting degrees from Oberlin, he began work as a singer with a specialty in early music. He has appeared with Apollo's Fire, Cleveland's Baroque Orchestra, in works ranging from Bach's Passions to 15th Century Hebrew polyphony to Mozart's Requiem.
