Returning as stage director for Verdi's A Masked Ball, Mr.
Igesz first came to Opera San José in 1993 when he staged a production
of Il barbiere di Siviglia, and then, most recently, OSJ's
production of La Cenerentola (2002 - 2003) and
Rigoletto during the
2000 - 2001 season. Having directed at the Metropolitan Opera for 23
years, he is also a free-lance director, staging productions all over
the world. His most recent productions at the Met include Carmen,
Ariadne auf Naxos, Eugene Onegin, Bluebeard's Castle, Don Pasquale
and Macbeth.
Other recent productions include
Simon Boccanegra and Un ballo in maschera in Puerto Rico;
La traviata and Carmen in Bydgoszcz, Poland; La
Cenerentola and Don Pasquale in Santa Barbara, California;
Don Pasquale and Un ballo in maschera in Greensboro
and The Rape of Lucretia in Reykjavik, Iceland.
