Opera San José and History San José Partner for Music Series
Everyone likes a little love in the
afternoon. Opera San José and
History San José are presenting that opportunity
with the inaugural partnership of Opera in the Park, featuring arias from
The Elixir of Love during an afternoon in
History Park.
On Sunday, October 19th the
public is invited to partake in a preview of Gaetano Donizetti’s The
Elixir of Love,
a happy and charming operatic tale of idyllic life in a sort of 1900’s
valley of heart’s delight setting. History
Park provides the perfect backdrop for an afternoon of opera, as well as a
pre-preview of History San José’s
exhibition, She Made It! – The Tradition of Women’s Arts and Crafts
Through the Years, opening to the public
on Friday, October 24th.
“Presenting inspiring music in History
Park will become a tradition,” said Alida Bray, President and CEO of
History San José. “It is a pleasure to partner with one of the premier
artistic groups in Northern California---and a
great way to say Happy 25th Birthday to Opera San José.”
The opera preview will begin at 4:30
p.m. with a brief introduction by Larry Hancock,
General Manager of Opera
San José, followed by a performance by four of Opera San José's singers,
performing selected arias from Elixir.
“To be able to bring opera to the
people of San José in such a lovely venue is exactly what Opera San José is
about,” said Irene Dalis, General Director and founder of Opera San José.
“It is a great way to celebrate our
25th season.”
History Park will open the usual Sunday
time of noon, but remain open until 6:30 p.m. Patrons are welcome to
bring their own picnic and lawn chairs. O’Brien’s Ice Cream Parlor and Café
will also be open and the vintage
trolley will be running. Admission to History Park is free; parking is $6.
