After receiving critical acclaim for Opera San José's productions of
Don Giovanni, Le nozze di Figaro and Tosca, Lorna Haywood
returns to direct Verdi's Rigoletto during the 2007 - 2008
season.
Ms. Haywood's previous directorial credits with the company include
La traviata (April 2002) La bohème (2001),
Madama Butterfly (2002), Verdi's Il trovatore (2003)
and Die Fledermaus in 2004. Ms. Haywood's recent directorial credits elsewhere
include productions of La traviata for Nordfjord Opera of
Norway, La traviata, Madama Butterfly, Le nozze di Figaro,
La bohème, Roméo et Juliette, and Il trovatore for
Madison Opera, La traviata for Pensacola Opera, Tosca for
Eugene Opera, Amahl and the Night Visitors for Toledo Opera and
Rigoletto for Opera Birmingham.
Other
productions Ms. Haywood directed include Albert Herring, Madama
Butterfly, Gianni Schicchi and Leoncavallo's Pagliacci for
Opera Lenawee where she was resident stage director for three years.
For Opera Maine, she directed Tartuffe, L'Heure espagnol,
The Telephone, The Medium, Amelia Goes to the Ball, Bon appetit,
and Pizza con funghi. Upcoming directing engagements include
Fidelio for Atlanta Opera in 2005 and Le nozze di Figaro
for Virginia Opera in 2006.
Ms.
Haywood made her American debut as soprano soloist with Robert Shaw.
She has sung with most of America's major symphony orchestras including
Chicago, San Francisco, Cleveland, Boston, and New York Philharmonic, as
well as the prestigious Bach Aria Group, Handel Society (Washington,
D.C.) and Music of the Baroque (Chicago.)
Her operatic performances have included the Lyric Opera
of Chicago as well as the San Francisco, Dallas, Baltimore, Fort Worth,
New Orleans, Atlanta, Honolulu, San Diego and Washington, D.C. opera
companies. In Europe, Ms. Haywood was for many years a leading soprano
with Royal Opera House Covent Garden, English National Opera, Welsh
National Opera, Scottish Opera, and Glyndebourne Festival Opera.
