Jasmina Halimic joins the resident company
during the 2010 - 2011 season, performing the title roles in Anna
Karenina and Tosca and the role of Mimì (La bohème). Ms. Halimic made her company debut as Magda
in the company premiere of Puccini's La rondine during the 2009
- 2010 season.
Roles performed recently
by Ms. Halimic include the Countess (Le nozze di Figaro) for the
Intermezzo Foundation in Belgium and Mimì (La bohème)
with Amore Opera. In the summer of 2006, she performed the title role of
Hanna Glawari in The Merry Widow with the Janiec Opera Company at
the Brevard Festival. Additional major roles to her credit include Nedda
(Pagliacci), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte),
Musetta (La bohème), and the
First Lady (Die Zauberflöte).
In 2004 Ms. Halimic was chosen to perform for the World Gourmet Summit
at MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Also at home on the
concert stage, Ms. Halimic has performed the soprano solo in
Mendelssohn’s Elijah, and has been a featured soloist in recitals
and gala concerts with the Pittsburgh Concert Society / Tuesday Musical
Club, Queens Opera, Opera Tampa, among others.
Ms. Halimic has been a
finalist and an award winner in such competitions as the Liederkranz
Competition, Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, Palm Beach
Opera Competition, Belvedere Competition, Queens Opera Competition, Bel
Canto Competition and others.
She completed her
graduate studies at Indiana University where she received praise for her
portrayal of Tatiana in Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin under Maestro
David Effron and Valencienne in Tito Capobianco's production of The
Merry Widow. Ms. Halimic has a Bachelor of Music and Italian
language from Duquesne University.
Born in Bosnia and Herzegovina and now a
citizen of the United States, Ms. Halimic moved with her family to
Pittsburgh as a teenager. Ms.
