To celebrate the 25th anniversary of anything is memorable. To celebrate 25 years of history in Silicon Valley is remarkable!! General Director Irene Dalis is pleased to announce that the company will celebrate its 25 years as a major member of the San José arts community with an elegant, black-tie gala on Saturday, September 20, 2008. The evening's festivities begin with a sumptuous dinner at the Fairmont Hotel on Market Street at 5 p.m. Guests will then take a short stroll to the magnificent California Theatre on South First Street to enjoy an 8 p.m. concert featuring performances by current and past members of Opera San José's resident company, along with the Opera San José orchestra and chorus. The historic occasion concludes with a champagne and cake reception throughout the beautiful patio and historic lobby areas of the theatre.

Returning members of the Opera San José resident ensemble who will be performing include soprano Barbara Divis, mezzo-soprano Layna Chianakas, tenor Christopher Bengochea, and baritone Scott Bearden (First Prize and the Audience Favorite Award winner at the May 31 Irene Dalis Vocal Competition). Current principal artist Khori Dastoor will also perform. All artists will perform arias, duets, and ensembles from well-loved operas by Bizet, Puccini, and Verdi.

Throughout the concert, Opera San José will reflect on its 25-year history through live appearances and a video to honor and recognize its achievements and those who supported its success. Media sponsor KDFC will emcee the event.

The gala dinner and concert will be the company's major fundraiser of the season. Tickets to just the concert and reception ($150) can be purchased on-line via tickets.com.
