Betany Coffland, mezzo-soprano, joins OSJ's resident
company during the 2008 - 2009 season, performing the roles of Olga
(Eugene Onegin), Dorabella (Così
fan tutte), and the title role in Carmen. Roles performed
recently by Ms. Coffland include Zita (Gianni Schicchi),
L'Enfant (L'Enfant et les sortilegès),
Miles (The Turn of the Screw) and Giannetta (The Elixir
of Love.) Ms. Coffland has been a member of Opera Idaho's Resident
Company for the past two years and is also a founding member of the
Idaho CoOPERAtive.
Concert
engagements includes solo performances in Lincoln Center's Alice Tully
Hall and Boston's Jordan Hall. She has also performed recitals in
Kansas, Idaho and Missouri.
In 2003, Ms. Coffland was the recipient
of the Bori Grant for foreign music study in the Czech language which
she studied in Prague. She has received scholarships from The
Juilliard School, the Aspen Music Festival and the New England
Conservatory of Music.
Ms. Coffland received her MM degree
from The Juilliard School in 2005 and a Bachelor of Music in vocal
performance from New England Conservatory of Music in 2001.
