Former resident artist Scott Bearden returns during the 2007 - 2008 season to appear in the title role of Rigoletto. Most recently, Mr. Bearden was named the First Prize winner in the Second Annual Chester Ludgin Memorial American Verdi Baritone Competition in New York City on November 8, 2007. In June of 2007, Mr. Bearden received the Audience Favorite Award at the inaugural Irene Dalis Vocal Competition. Other recent performances featured Mr. Bearden as Dr. Bartolo in OSJ's 2006 - 2007 production of The Barber of Seville, the role of Michele (Il tabarro) in Tel Aviv, Germont (La traviata) with the Mississippi Opera, and Marcello (La bohème) for the Midland Symphony. Engagements during the 2004 - 2005 season included Peachum (The Threepenny Opera) for West Bay Opera, Renato (Un ballo in maschera) with Festival Opera, Scarpia (Tosca) for Bel Canto Association of Lima, Peru, Conte di Luna in a joint Monterey Opera/Monterey Symphony production of ll trovatore, the title role in Rigoletto for Opera Theatre of Connecticut and Prism Opera Showcase of New York, and Scarpia (Tosca) with Midland Center of the Arts. During the 2003 - 2004 season, Mr. Bearden returned to Opera San José to appear as Tonio in Pagliacci. Following his departure from Opera San José
in 2002,
Mr. Bearden sang concert performances of Rigoletto with Monterey
Symphony in June, and appeared as Mustafà in L'italiania in Algeri
for Opera Theater of Connecticut. Other recent performances include
Renato (Un ballo in maschera) at Opera Memphis, Don Alphonso
(Così fan tutte)
at the Sanibel Music Festival, Marcello (La bohème) and Scarpia
(Tosca) for West Bay Opera, concert performances of Rigoletto
with Monterey Symphony, Mustafa (L'Italiana in Algeri) for Opera
Theatre of Connecticut, a recital at Central Michigan University and
