James Callon joins the resident ensemble during the 2012-13 season, performing the roles of Nadir (The Pearl Fishers), Eisenstein (Die Fledermaus), Manrico (Il trovatore), and Rinuccio (Gianni Schicchi). Mr. Callon recently concluded his second season as a Studio Artist with Tulsa Opera, where he performed the role of Howard Boucher in the company’s debut production of Jake Heggie’s Dead Man Walking to critical acclaim as well as Mr. Owen in Dominick Argento’s surrealistic one-act opera, Postcard From Morocco. Other recent engagements include his debut as Gastone (La traviata) for Tulsa Opera, Tenor Vassal (Götterdämmerung) and Giuseppe (La traviata) with Los Angeles Opera, Nemorino (The Elixir of Love) for Tulsa Opera, and Alfredo (La traviata) with Rogue Opera.
Mr. Callon has performed extensively on the concert stage, including performances as a soloist in Handel’s Messiah, Schubert’s Nachthelle, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Bach’s Magnificat and Mozart’s Requiem. Awards received include First Place in the N.A.T.S. Young Artist Auditions – Apprentice Division – in 2004, and Second Place (N.A.T.S.) – Career Division, in 2008.
