1999 – 2003
During the 2014-15 season, JONATHAN HODEL appears as soloist with the Broomfield Symphony in Colorado in March, performing selections from La bohème and Cavalleria rusticana. He returns to OSJ in May to perform in the Irene Dalis Memorial Concert.
Engagements during the 2011-12 season for Mr. Hodel included a performance with the Broomfield Symphony in which he will sing selections from La bohème and Cavalleria rusticana. During the 2009-10 season, Mr. Hodel performed with Opera in the Heights in their productions of Die Fledermaus (Eisenstein), Les Contes D’hoffmann (Hoffman), Un ballo in Maschera (Ricardo), Il Tabarro (Luigi) and Pagliacci (Canio).
For the past few years, Mr. Hodel has been heading the opera workshop program at Frostburg State University in Maryland, as well as being the music department’s vocal coordinator. He has also served as Associate Director of Music for the Asheville Lyric Opera, where he conducted performances of Don Giovanni, La traviata and The Barber of Seville.
In the 2006 – 2007 season, Mr. Hodel sang the role of Rodolfo (La bohème) with the Saint Petersburg Opera, and in November of 2007, he traveled to Germany to perform in Verdi’s Requiem with the Württenbergishe Philharmonie.
Mr. Hodel returned to Asheville Lyric Opera during the 2005 – 2006 season to conduct performances of that company’s Opera Gala, and to sing the role of Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly) in spring 2006.
In Fall 2005, Mr. Hodel returned to OSJ to perform the role of Judge Danforth in The Crucible. Previously, Mr. Hodel shared conducting assignments for Die Fledermaus during the 2003 – 2004 season for Opera San José.
Other past engagements for Mr. Hodel included the roles of Radames (Aïda) and Manrico (Il trovatore) for Monterey Opera, the Duke (Rigoletto) for Bay Shore Lyric Opera, Don José (Carmen) and Rodolfo (La bohème) for Asheville Lyric Opera, and Rodolfo for Hessisches-Staatstheater in Wiesbaden, Germany. While in Germany, he also reprised the role of Manrico in Verdi’s Il trovatore for the Compagnia d’opera italiana di Milano international opera tour and performed Mendelssohn’s Lobgesang for the Württenbergishe Philharmonie.
