Deborah Berioli, Soprano
2004 – 2006
Engagements for DEBORAH BERIOLI in the 2009 – 2010 season included performances with the Venice Performing Arts Series in Florida, a company that she founded and for which she serves as artistic director. In January 2010, Ms. Berioli performed with the Dalesman Choir in Derbyshire, UK, in a benefit concert, and in April 2010, was the soprano soloist with the Exsultate Chorale in Venice, Florida.
During the 2008 – 2009 season, Ms. Berioli performed the role of Cio-Cio San (Madama Butterfly) for Stockton Opera Association. On the concert stage, Ms. Berioli appeared as soloist in Handel’s Messiah, was featured at the Venice Performing Arts Series Holiday Concert, performed with the Charlotte Symphony in their Operatic Obsession concert and returned to the Venice Performing Arts Series to sing in The Dynamic Duo: Molto High Drama. In July of 2009, she returned to San Jose as the featured soloist in Midsummer Mozart’s performance of The Newborn Rose Enchants for which she received critical acclaim.
Ms. Berioli returned to Opera San José during the 2006 – 2007 season to appear in the title role of Madama Butterfly. Last season, Ms. Berioli performed the roles of Elizabeth Proctor (The Crucible), Amelia (A Masked Ball), Mimì (La bohème), and Donna Anna (Don Giovanni). Ms. Berioli made her company debut during the 2004 – 2005 season performing the roles of Countess Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), the title role in Tosca, Micaëla (Carmen), and Senta (Der fliegende Holländer).
Ms. Berioli made her Carnegie Hall debut in April 2000 with New England Symphonic Ensemble performing the Requiems of Mozart and Fauré, and returned during the 2001 – 2002 season as a soloist in Poulenc’s Gloria. Other operatic experience includes performances with the Metropolitan Opera Guild, Sarasota Opera Company, Orchestra of St. Luke’s at Lincoln Center, Minnesota Opera Company and Des Moines Metro Opera Company. Ms. Berioli’s role repetoire includes Mimì (La bohème), Liu (Turandot), the title role of Madama Butterfly as well as Marguerite (Faust), Antonia (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), and The Governess (The Turn of the Screw).
Other concert appearances have featured Ms. Berioli as soloist with Minnesota Orchestra and St. Paul’s Cathedral Orchestra. Most recently, Ms. Berioli was a featured soloist with Santa Cruz Symphony in their performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and with the Redwood Symphony in their performance of Mahler’s Symphony No. 2. She is an accomplished recitalist, having performed art song recitals throughout the New York Metropolitan area.
Her awards include third place in the New Jersey State Opera International Competition (2002), and first place in the Metropolitan National Council, Upper Mid-Western Auditions.
