Cecilia Violetta López, Soprano
During the 2014-15 season, CECILIA VIOLETTA LOPEZ makes her role debut as Magda (La rondine) with Skylark Opera in Minnesota, and covers the role of Sylviane in the Met’s production of The Merry Widow. For Virginia Opera, she appeared as Violetta in their production of La traviata, and performed the role of Gilda for Opera Idaho’s production of Rigoletto in 2014.
While a member of OSJ’s resident ensemble, Cecilia Violetta López appeared as Nannetta (Falstaff), Gretel (Hansel and Gretel), Cio-Cio-san (Madama Butterfly), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) during the 2013-14 season. Ms. López made her debut as a member of OSJ’s resident ensemble in the 2012-13 season, appearing as Leïla (The Pearl Fishers), Roselinda (Die Fledermaus), Leonora (Il trovatore), Suor Angelica (Suor Angelica) and Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi).
Recent engagements for Ms. López include covering Hélène (Les vêpres siciliennes) for the Caramoor Music Festival and performing Zerlina (Don Giovanni) for Opera Las Vegas, the title role in Suor Angelica for Opera San Luis Obispo, Micaëla (Carmen), Gasparina (La Canterina) and Pamina (Die Zauberflöte) for UNLV Opera Theatre and Poppea (L’incoronazione di Poppea) for the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival.
Ms. López’ solo concert performances include Mahler’s Symphony 4 and selections from Canteloube’s Chants d’Auvergne with the Henderson Symphony Orchestra, Rutter’s Mass of the Children with the Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society and Bach’s Magnificat, Villa-Lobos’s Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5 for soprano and cellos and Rachmaninov’s Vocalise with the UNLV Orchestra.
Most recently, Ms. López was named First Place Winner in the 2014 Irene Dalis Vocal Competition. She was a Semifinalist in the 2011 Loren Zachary Vocal Competition, and won the 2012 The Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions for the Utah District, advancing to the Rocky Mountain Regional Finals at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House in Denver, Colorado. Ms. López received her Bachelor of Music in 2011 from University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
