engagements for JOSEPH WRIGHT during the 2006 - 2007 season include the
role of Jake
(Porgy and Bess)
with Tulsa Opera in April 2007, a reprisal of his encore performance as
Malcolm X
(The Life and Times of Malcom X )
with Oakland Opera Theater in May 2007, and the role of Crown
(Porgy and Bess) with Oakland East Bay Symphony, also in May.

with Sacramento
Opera. Following his
departure from Opera San José, Mr. Wright (2000 - 2006) received rave
reviews for his performance in the title role of Anthony Davis' s
The Life and Times of Malcom X
with Oakland Opera Theatre in summer 2006. Other engagements during 2006
included the role of Crown (Porgy and Bess) with Mendocino Music
Festival, which he also performed with Opera Memphis in October.
While
a member of the resident company, Mr. Wright performed the roles of John
Proctor (The Crucible),
Count Anckarstroem
(A Masked Ball),
Marcello
(La bohème) and
the title role in
Don Giovanni
during the 2005 - 2006 season.
Other roles performed for Opera San
Josè include the title role in Le nozze di Figaro,
Scarpia
(Tosca),
Escamillo
(Carmen),
and the title role in
Der fliegende Holländer in the 2004
- 2005 season.
During the 2003 - 2004 season, Mr. Wright appeared as Malatesta (Don
Pasquale), Silvio (Pagliacci), Alfio (Cavalleria
rusticana), Zurga (Les Pêcheurs
de perles),
and Dr. Falke (Die Fledermaus). Other OSJ roles performed
include Dandini (La Cenerentola),
Valentin (Faust), Count di Luna (Il trovatore), Papageno (Die Zauberflöte),
Ford (Falstaff),
Guglielmo (Così fan tutte), Lescaut (Manon,) and Sharpless
(Madama Butterfly).
Equally at home on both the operatic and concert stage, Mr. Wright has
appeared with the Sacramento Philharmonic, Winchester Orchestra (San Jose)
and Camerata Orchestra (Carmel). In spring 2005, he
appeared in the SJSU Artist Showcase Concert in honor of retiring
professor Dr. Charlene Archibeque. His repertoire includes Schubert’s Mass
in G and Magnificat, Bach's Magnificat, Requiem Mass
by Fauré, Brahms, and Duruflé as well as Händel’s Messiah.
Mr. Wright has been awarded top prizes in vocal performance competitions
sponsored by the San José Opera Guild and Mu Phi Epsilon.
