Michel Singher,
Conductor

 

 

 

 


Michel Singher shares conducting duties in OSJ's 2006 - 2007 prouduction of La traviata. 
In addition to distinguished careers on the concert podium and as a teacher, Mr. Singher has conducted some sixty operas, ranging in style from Scarlatti to Stephen Paulus, in many hundreds of performances for European and American opera houses.

Maestro Singher has conducted for many American opera companies from Alaska to Florida. At the specific request of Charles Mackerras, he has been Sir Charles' understudy for three productions at San Francisco Opera.

On the symphonic podium, Mr. Singher has led the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra,  the Basel Symphony Orchestra, and the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, among many others. He was for several years Professor of Orchestral Conducting at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. His concerts with the conservatory's orchestras were frequently broadcast on NPR's "Performance Today," and he led the Oberlin Orchestra in an acclaimed all-Beethoven concert in Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall.

Currently the Coordinator of Opera at San José State University's School of Music and Dance, Mr. Singher has taught at Bay Area Summer Opera Theater Institute, New York University, Oberlin Conservatory of Music, University of Washington and Music Academy of the West.
