| Michael Mendelsohn appears
as Benvolio (Romèo et Juliette) and Goro (Madama Butterfly) in his company debut with Opera San
José. Mr. Mendelsohn was recently seen as Sellem (The Rakes Progress)
with West Bay Opera. Other roles performed with that company include
Normanno (Lucia di Lammermoor), Monostatos (Die Zauberflöte)
and Peter Quint (The Turn of the Screw.)
Mr. Mendelsohn has performed the role of
Alfred (Die Fledermaus) with North Bay Opera, Alfredo (La
traviata) with Cinnabar Theater, and the Devil in Stravinsky's
The Soldier's Tale, and Pedrillo (The Abduction from the
Seraglio) with Pocket Opera. For Livermore Valley Opera, he appeared
as Spalanzani (The Tales of Hoffman) and Don Basilio (Le nozze
di Figaro).
On the concert stage, Mr. Mendelsoh's
repertoire includes performances of Monteverdi's Vespers,
Mozart's Requiem, Mendelssohn's Elijah, Rossini's
Petite Messe Solonelle, Beethoven's Mass in C Major, Bach's
Magnificat, to name just a few. For the San Francisco Symphony and
Chorus, he appeared as soloist in Orff's Carmina Burana and
Respighi's Laud to the Nativity.
