Kenneth Mattice,
Baritone

Entering his first year as a principal artist of Opera San José's resident company, Kenneth Mattice performs the roles of Mercutio (Roméo et Juliette), Figaro (The Barber of Seville), Germont (La traviata) and Sharpless (Madama Butterfly) during the 2006 - 2007 season. Mr. Mattice recently made his debut with Baltimore Opera as Belcore (L'elsir d'amore), Antonio (Le nozze di Figaro), and Hermann (Les Contes d'Hoffman), and will soon appear as Schaunard (La bohème). Other recent appearances include debuts at Chautauqua Opera as Wagner (Faust) and Opera Theatre North as Schaunard (La bohème). At the Ravinia Festival, Mr. Mattice performed Escamillo (Carmen), and performed a concert version of Don Pasquale with the Newton Symphony. He has sung with Chicago Opera Theater and was a featured artist in their recital series held at the Chicago Cultural Center.

In 2004, Mr. Mattice was named a winner in the Bel Canto Italian Opera Competition and the Friends of Austria Competition. Other awards received include the Palm Beach Opera Competition (2003) and the Quad Cities Opera Competition (2003).

Mr. Mattice's artist residency is made possible in part by a Fellowship Grant from Jack and Jeanne McCann.
