2005 - 2006 engagements for CHRISTINA MAJOR include performances as Violetta (La traviata) with Rimrock Opera in
Billings, Montana and her debut with Ft. Worth
Opera in the role of Mimì (La bohème). On the concert stage, Ms.
Major will be the featured soloist with the Fairbanks Symphony in Alaska
in their performance of the Brahms Requiem, and will also be a
featured soloist in Mozart's C Minor Mass with
the Duke University Chorale and Orchestra Pro Cantores. In
2007, Ms. Major will appear as soloist with the Winston-Salem Symphony
for their performance of Mahler's Second Symphony, and
with the Delaware Symphony in their performance of Carmina Burana.Recent performances
featured Ms. Major as a soloist in the NEA's Great American Voices Series at Malmstrom
Airforce Base. She also appeared as soloist in Carmina
Burana with the Phoenix Symphony, as a soloist with George Cleve and the Midsummer Mozart
Festival, and as Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia) with Opera Plus
in Idaho.
After her departure from
Opera San José in 2004, Ms. Major was a featured soloist with The
Midsummer Mozart Festival, and appeared as a guest artist in
University of North Texas Opera Center's fall 2004 production of Madama
Butterfly in the title role. Most recently, she was named a winner
in the Dallas Opera Guild Vocal Competition in 2005.
During her second engagement as a
member of Opera San
José's resident company, Ms. Major appeared as Nedda (Pagliacci),
Léïla (Les Pêcheurs de perles ), and Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus)
during the 2003 - 2004 season. Ms. Major's previous roles with OSJ include
Anne Trulove
(The Rake’s Progress), Juliette ( Roméo et Juliette), Donna
Anna (Don Giovanni), Hanna (The Merry Widow), Rosina (Il
barbiere di Siviglia), Micaëla (Carmen), and Violetta (La
traviata).
Ms. Major
performed the roles of Violetta
(La traviata) with Nevada Opera in February of 2001, the Countess (Le nozze di Figaro) with
Amarillo Opera in 2002, and Mimì (La bohème) with Knoxville Opera
in 2003. Ms. Major also toured with the Santa Fe Opera in spring of
2003 and continued to perform with that company during the summer. Other
recent performances include the roles of the Accuser and Victim in the world
premiére of Bright Sheng's Madam Mao at Santa Fe Opera. Ms. Major
also was a nominee for the prestigious Sarah Tucker Awards.
