During the summer of 2005,
BRIAN LEERHUBER appeared as Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia
for Santa Fe Opera. In 2004, Mr. Leerhuber appeared in the title role of
Emperor of Atlantis with Cinncinati Opera and at the Spoleto, Italy
Festival, sang the role of Mercutio (Roméo et
Juliette) with Festival Opera of Walnut Creek, and made
his operatic debut in France as Guglielmo (Così fan tutte) at the
Lyrique en Mer festival. Mr. Leerhuber also performed the role of Breedly
in the world premiere of William Bolcom's A Wedding at Lyric
Opera of Chicago, directed by acclaimed film director Robert Altman and
conducted by Dennis Russell Davies. Other recent engagements included
the role of Count Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro) with Austin Lyric
Opera and Marcello (La bohème) in Billings, Montana. In February
of 2005, Mr. Leerhuber appeared with former OSJ resident artist Layna
Chianakas in a performance of Lieder aus Des Knaben Wunderhorn
with the Oakland East Bay Symphony.
Upcoming performances will feature Mr.
Leerhuber in his debut with the Houston Grand Opera where he
will sing the role of Malatesta (Don Pasquale).
Mr. Leerhuber
recently completed his residency as a
member of Lyric Opera Center for American Artists, an affiliate program to
Lyric Opera of Chicago. He subsequently made his debut with that company
as the Novice's Friend in a new production of Billy Budd,
and appeared as Papageno (Die Zauberflöte), Marchese
(La traviata), Silvano (Un ballo in maschera), and Sharpless (Madama
Butterfly). In 2000, Mr. Leerhuber was the recipient of the Santa Fe
Opera Anna Case Mackay grant, and, in 2003, received the Sullivan
Foundation Award.
Mr. Leerhuber was featured in the
annual Marilyn Horne Foundation New York Recital at the Juilliard Theater in
New York (January 1999). He performed Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro) at
Festival Opera in Walnut Creek (July 1999), Gluck’s Armide and
Britten’s Rape of Lucretia at Juilliard Opera Center, and Guglielmo (Così
fan tutte) at Festival Opera in Walnut Creek (summer 2000). Other recent
performances featured Mr. Leerhuber singing the role of Pelleas at Juilliard
and Dandini in Eugene Opera’s production of La Cenerentola. He has
also appeared with Santa Fe Opera, Rimrock Opera, Rogue Opera, Monterey
Symphony, San Francisco Concert Chorale, Opera Buffs and Berkeley Opera,
where he sang the role of Eumee in the West Coast premiere of Faure's
Penelope.
