Jason Detwiler,
Baritone

At the close of the 2006 - 2007 season, JASON DETWILER appeared as Yeletsky (Pikovaya Dama) with West Bay Opera, Billy Bigelow (Carousel) with Shreveport Opera, and soloist in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with Vallejo Symphony Orchestra. The 2007 - 2008 season will see him return to Opera Idaho as Marcello, and debut with Rimrock Opera as Jack Rance (La Fanciulla del West) and with Syracuse Opera as Sylvio/Gobineau in a double bill of I Pagliacci/The Medium. Further down the road in 2008-2009, the baritone will be making his role and company debut as Figaro (Il Barbieri di Siviglia) with Virginia Opera.

Most recently, Mr. Detwiler was named a finalist in the Inaugural Irene Dalis Competition, and was the Second Place Winner in Classical Singer's Magazine Vocal Competition.

After leaving OSJ's resident company in 2006, Mr. Detwiler performed the role of the Pilgrim in Vaughn William's Pilgrim's Progress with Trinity Lyric Opera of Walnut Creek in June 2006 and the title role of Macbeth in October 2006 for West Bay Opera.

During his residency with Opera San José, Mr. Detwiler appeared as John Proctor (The Crucible), Count Anckarstroem (A Masked Ball), Marcello (La bohème), the title role in Don Giovanni, Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro), Scarpia (Tosca), Escamillo (Carmen), and the title role in Der fliegende Holländer. Other roles performed with OSJ include Malatesta (Don Pasquale), Alfio (Cavalleria rusticana), Silvio (Pagliacci), Zurga (Les Pêcheurs de perles) and Dr. Falke (Die Fledermaus) during the 2003 - 2004 season.  Mr. Detwiler made his Opera San José debut in OSJ's 2002 - 2003 season as  Dandini (La Cenerentola), and performed Valentin (Faust), Conte di Luna (Il trovatore) and Papageno (Die Zauberflöte).

Mr. Detwiler has also performed with Apollo Sierra Opera, Sacramento Opera, Festival Opera, San Francisco Lyric Opera, Opera Idaho, and West Bay Opera. As a result of his work in Das Rheingold as Alberich, he was awarded a study grant from the Northern California Wagner Society and participated in a concert hosted by the Wagner Society in Washington, D.C. under the coaching of Thomas Stewart and Evelyn Lear.
