Rossini, known the world over for his effervescent music and never-ending wit was launched into international acclaim with this brilliant opera, and to this day no Italian comic opera has approached its popularity. The Barber of Seville is an ensemble opera, that, is, all major roles are equally important to the plot, and each principal character is given equal time in the limelight. But it must be admitted that Figaro, himself, Rossini's most charming conniver, is the most famous of them all. The Barber of Seville is all fun and brilliant singing.
