Judith Skinner makes her debut with Opera San José in the role of Tituba in Ward's The Crucible. Widely known for her portrayal of unusual and specialized characters, Ms. Skinner's recent engagements include Erda (Das Rheingold) conducted by Richard Woitech, Mama Lucia (Cavalleria rusticana) with Cape Cod Opera and Tituba (The Crucible) with Toledo Opera. She repeated the role of Tituba in her debut with Indianapolis Opera in the spring of 2005.  During the 2004 - 2005 season, Ms. Skinner also collaborated in their New York City Opera with their Educational Touring Program of La Cenerentola.

As a resident artist with Opera Memphis, Ms. Skinner sang the role of the Mother (Les Contes D'Hoffmann) and also created the role of Harriet Tubman in She Never Lost a Passenger.  She has also sung the role of Betty in Michael Ching’s opera, Faith at both the Vital Theater in New York and Chicago.  While in New York, she has appeared as Marcellina (Le nozze di Figaro) and La Principessa (Suor Angelica).  Ms Skinner’s Baba in The Medium is perhaps her best-known work with Bronx Opera.  She has also appeared with them as Magdelone in Nielsen’s Masquerade.  Other roles in Ms. Skinner's repetoire include the Sorceress  (Dido and Aeneas), the Mayor (The Happy Prince), Marah (Riders to the Sea), and Lady Spirit (A Christmas Carol).

Ms. Skinner has received awards from the National Association of Negro and Professional Women and placed second in the Northeast District of the Leontyne Price Vocal Competition.

Upcoming engagements for Ms. Skinner include Giovanna (Rigoletto) and Mrs. Winthrop (The Secret Garden) with the Utah Festival Opera.  On the concert stage, Ms. Skinner will appear as soloist in the Mozart Requiem with The Bronx Symphony, and an Evening of World Premiers with the Riverside Opera Ensemble, performing Simples composed by Stephen Dembski.
