Sandra Rubalcava,
Soprano

 

 

 

 


Former resident artist Sandra Rubalcava returns as a guest artist during the 2005 - 2006 season to perform the roles of Abigail Williams (The Crucible), Oscar (A Masked Ball), Musetta (La bohème) and Zerlina (Don Giovanni).  Ms. Rubalcava sang the role of Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro) during the 2004 - 2005 inaugural season in the California Theatre.  In the 2003 - 2004 season she sang Norina  (Don Pasquale), Leila  (Les Pêcheurs de perles), and Adele (Die Fledermaus).  Other OSJ roles performed include Despina (Così fan tutte), Nanetta (Falstaff), Adina (L’elisir d’amore), Gilda (Rigoletto), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Mimì (La bohème), the title role in Manon, Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia) and Marguerite (Faust).

She has also sung the roles of Musetta (La bohème), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), and Rosina (Il baribere di Sivglia) with companies such as Opera Idaho, Israel Vocal Arts, Rimrock Opera and Bayshore Lyric Opera.  Most recently, Ms. Rubalcava sang the role of Natoya in the opera, Poia (the Blackfoot legend of Scarface) for The Lewis and Clark Society in Great Falls, Montana. 

Equally comfortable in concert, Ms. Rubalcava has sung works such as Orff’s Carmina Burana, Mozart’s Requiem and Missa Solemnis with such orchestras as the San Jose Symphony, The Cleveland Symphony, and The Midsummer Mozart Festival. 

Most recently, Ms. Rubalcava was an international finalist at the 2004 Gerda Lissner Foundation in New York City where she received an encouragement award.  She was also a national semi-finalist at the Palm Beach Vocal Competition, a two-time finalist at NATS and recipient of The National Hispanic Scholarship.
