Former resident artist Jonathan Hodel returns to Opera San José during the 2005 - 2006 season to perform the role of Judge Danforth in The Crucible. Mr. Hodel's most recent engagement with OSJ was in spring 2004 when he shared conducting assignments for Die Fledermaus.  

Other 2004 engagements for Mr. Hodel included the role of Manrico for Monterey Opera's concert version of Verdi's Il trovatore, the role of Radames (Aïda) for Monterey Opera, and Rodolfo (La bohème) for both Asheville Lyric Opera and Hessisches-Staatstheater in Wiesbaden, Germany. While in Germany, he also reprised the role of Manrico in Verdi's Il trovatore for the Compagnia d'opera italiana di Milano international opera tour, stepping in for another tenor who suddenly became ill.
