Peter Crompton
returns to Opera San José as set designer for Verdi's A
Masked Ball. Mr. Crompton recently won critical acclaim for his
design work in three productions with Festival Opera: Don
Pasquale (2002), Aida (2003) and last season’s
Rigoletto. Since his first set design in 1990, his work has been
seen in numerous productions with opera, theatre and dance companies
throughout California, such as Diablo Light Opera Company, West Bay
Opera, Berkeley Opera, Santa Barbara Grand Opera, Western Ballet,
Marin Theatre Company, Center Repertory Company, San Francisco
Camerata and the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival. Other recent
design credits include The King and I for Diablo Light Opera
Company, Treasure Island for the Willows Theatre, Don
Giovanni for West Bay Opera, Annie! for the Willows
Theatre, Yeomen of the Guard for Lamplighters Music Theatre
and The Threepenny Opera for West Bay Opera.
Mr. Crompton is a
recent winner of the Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Award for
Patience with Lamplighters Music Theatre, as well as the Shellie
Awards for Sunday in the Park with George with Contra Costa
Musical Theatre and Proposals with Center Repertory Theatre.
Mr. Crompton also works as a fine artist and his sculptures are shown at
Fleury Gallery in Forestville and each October at Artrails in Sonoma.
