Other recent
engagements included Ferrando
(Così fan
tutte) in Bordeaux, the Steersman (Der Fliegende Holländer) under the
direction of famed film director Werner Herzog, and appearances
with both the Opera Theatre of St. Louis and Boston Lyric Opera as Don José in Carmen.
Other engagements included Alfredo
(La Traviata) for Calgary Opera, Berkshire Opera, and Cleveland Opera,
and Tamino (Die Zauberflöte) for Teatro Lirico di
Cagliari. For Arizona Opera, he appeared as Alfredo (La Traviata)
and Nadir (Les Pêcheurs de perles).
In the summer of 2000, Mr.
Bellemer reunited with former Opera San José resident company member Cynthia
Clayton in Belgium's Idée Fixe company for a performance of La traviata.
Other 2000 performances included his debuts with Minnesota Opera and
Palm Beach Opera as Count Almaviva, Nemorino in L'elisir d'amore
with Festival Opera of Walnut Creek, Count Almaviva with Hawaii Opera
Theatre, and his debut with Opera Theatre of St. Louis as Alfredo in La
traviata. He also debuted with the Dayton Opera as Don Ottavio and
appeared with Kent Nagano and the Berkeley Symphony as Zen in the West Coast
premiere of Elliott Carter's What Next?,
and appeared as the Duke in Rigoletto for Pensacola Opera. For Idée Fixe, Mr. Bellemer appeared as Don José (Carmen) in 2000 and the Duke
(Rigoletto) in 2001.
After his residency with Opera
San José, Mr. Bellemer appeared with Teatro Lirico Cagliari in Sardegna as the Romeo
character Sali in Delius' A Village Romeo and Juliet. Previous to
these performances, Mr. Bellemer was in Giessen, Germany, performing
Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia. He appeared with L'opera
Rouen as the soloist in Britten's Serenade for tenor, horn, and
strings. Earlier in the season, he debuted with with the Austin Lyric Opera
and Arizona Opera in the title role of Faust and the Duke of Mantua
in Rigoletto, respectively.
